Create Experiences

Teaching Conversational Spanish with AI

Columbia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) student Flor Barceló developed ProfesorX, an AI tool that supports student language learning. The AI bot prompts students to participate in a low-stakes chat dialogue and practice the types of responses they might give in a conversational setting. The tool can help them identify errors but does not correct them, leaving space for the student or a partner to do this work in order to foster deeper language learning. Instructors can also direct the tool to focus on specific vocabulary or materials for more targeted exchanges with students.

Are you creating classroom experiences with AI?

We want to learn from you! If you’re already using AI to design innovative learning experiences in your classroom, we’d love to hear about your approach. Additionally, if you have educational materials, tools, or resources that would benefit the broader Columbia teaching community, please consider sharing with our team at the CTL.
