Engage Students

Teaching Critical History with AI

Columbia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences student Palden Gyal has developed Logyupa, an AI tool designed to sharpen students’ critical thinking about historical sources. Rather than simply providing answers, Logyupa guides students through a deeper inquiry: Who created this source, and why? What social, political, and epistemic forces shaped both its creation and our interpretation of it? Through thoughtful dialogue, the tool helps students move beyond surface-level reading to examine the contexts that give sources their meaning.
