Engage Students

Teaching Literature with AI

Columbia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences student Ayesha Verma has created Hamlet AI, an innovative tool that helps students engage with Shakespeare’s classic play in a new way. Rather than simply answering questions about the text, the AI responds as Hamlet himself, using modern English while maintaining the character’s voice and perspective. Through this tool, students can explore the play’s plot, analyze key scenes, and discuss its literary themes and devices—all while interacting with the Prince of Denmark directly. Hamlet AI won’t write essays for students, but it will help them refine their arguments and develop their own interpretations of the play.
